Pembridge Hall Art

Both the Lower School and Upper School buildings at Pembridge Hall feature a space dedicated specifically to Art.

Our Upper School Art studio is custom-designed and flooded with natural light, providing a superb space in which the girls can allow their creativity free rein.

The girls in Lower School experience a host of different artistic media and begin to express their creative thoughts and ideas in 2D and 3D. They learn about colour theory and are introduced to a variety of artists.

Girls are encouraged to work in groups or individually to explore and discuss their ideas and thoughts, enhancing the creative process and developing vital collaborative skills.

Upper School art lessons allow the girls to extend their style techniques while utilising an ever-widening range of creative media, including batik, sewing, photography, wire modelling, felting and lino cutting. Projects are often linked to a particular Art movement, often one that fits appropriately into the year group curriculum.

Girls are encouraged to work in groups or individually to explore and discuss their ideas and thoughts, enhancing the creative process and developing vital collaborative skills.

Their technical skill is advanced through guided work on observation drawing, providing a vital springboard to creating further artwork.

In Advanced Art the girls are selected to further develop their creativity and technical abilities, creating projects in collaboration with a local art gallery and artist. Each year group will have the opportunity to visit an exhibition or galleries; past trips have included the Royal Academy, Sotheby’s, the Saatchi Gallery and the Museum of Brands. In addition, we are lucky enough to have well-established links with visiting artists who carry out workshops in school.
