Our busy Lower School building, encompassing Kindergarten, Year One, Year Two and Year Three, buzzes with purposeful activity throughout the school week.
Our joint philosophy is to secure the necessary skills for every child to become a confident and independent learner, and prepare them for life in our Upper School. We aim to support the children in their transitions between year groups, ensuring that by the time they leave our building they feel part of a thriving school community in which their individuality is cherished.
Our busy year encompasses such highlights as school trips, class assemblies, the Year 1 Nativity, a magical Christmas party, our Easter Bonnet parade and Sports Day.
All girls are appropriately challenged and supported to achieve their very best.
The girls are taught by a class teacher with support from a full-time teaching assistant, and lessons take place through a collaboration of whole class learning and small group work. We focus on the varying needs of individual children, ensuring that all girls are appropriately challenged and supported to achieve their very best.
We teach the core subjects of English, Maths and Science, supplemented by the Humanities and a plethora of specialist subjects, including Music, Physical Education, French, Art, Drama and ICT.
In Lower School, our primary focus is on reading as we believe it to be fundamental as means to access all other curriculum areas. Reading tasks are undertaken daily, through one-to-one individual reading, guided reading and shared reading in class.
A love of reading is fostered through a range of carefully selected reading schemes and high quality children's literature, in addition to a number of interactive learning sessions with well-known childrens’ authors. As our vital partners in the teaching of reading, parents are warmly invited to come and read to their daughters’ class in our library once a week.
