Pembridge Hall Mathematics

Maths is a vital part of life at Pembridge Hall, and is integrated into the daily programme of every year group in the school, with up to an hour of the teaching day dedicated to Maths lessons.

Interactive resources, combined with ICT, ensure that lessons are engaging, compelling and informative.

We aim for our pupils to leave with a confident, enthusiastic approach to the subject and a passion for solving problems.

We aim to challenge each girl in Maths, wherever their talent may lie, and consider personalised tasks, often grounded in a real-life context, to be key in achieving this.

As well as Number, Shape, Measure, Calculations and Data Handling, we also teach investigative and independent exploration of mathematical concepts through exciting Problem Solving lessons, and Puzzle and Problem Solving workshops run by specialist organisations.

We aim for our pupils to leave with a confident, enthusiastic approach to the subject and a passion for solving problems.

Beginning in Kindergarten with a firm grounding in basic concepts of number, shape and measure, taught through practical, interactive activities, our girls progress throughout the Lower School to performing and recording calculations and collating and presenting data.

Basic numeracy skills - such as times tables - are practised and consolidated, in order to ensure that the more complex and challenging mathematical tasks undertaken in the Upper School are supported by a thorough understanding of number and swift recall of key number facts.

Learning undertaken during the school day is consolidated and extended at home; Pembridge Hall provides a range of fun, interactive online Maths activities that children are able to access from a computer, tablet or smartphone.
