Pembridge Hall Music

Music plays an important part in the life of Pembridge Hall and is taught as a classroom subject to every child from Kindergarten through to Year 6.

Classroom activities focus on performing, listening, composing and learning about the key elements of music such as pitch, rhythm and notation so that pupils develop an understanding of Music theory as well as practice.

In addition to being a subject in its own right, Music enables girls to acquire and develop transferable skills - including confidence, communication and interpretation - as well as core skills relevant to other subject areas such as Mathematics and Languages. In addition to classroom music, there is a comprehensive programme of choral and instrumental provision in which girls are encouraged to participate.

Singing is at the heart of our music at Pembridge Hall School. Each class throughout the School participates in singing an eclectic range of repertoire from traditional ‘classical’, Western European music, folk songs from various world cultures through to musical theatre and more contemporary commercial and chart music.

During the course of the year there are various performance opportunities for girls to display their musical skills, both vocal and instrumental. These include: school assemblies, concerts, performances of cantatas, musicals and other theatrical productions, many of which welcome a public audience.

Singing is at the heart of our music at Pembridge Hall School.

In addition to classroom singing, the School has three choirs:

  1. Chamber Choir (21-24 voices recruited from Years 5 and 6), which is of a very high standard and for which girls must audition;
  2. Senior Choir, for which all girls from Years 4, 5 and 6 are eligible; and
  3. Junior Choir, which is open to all girls from Years 2 and 3.

As well as the Choirs, there are further opportunities for girls to participate in ensemble singing via the Lower School and Upper School Hymn Practices.

The School offers the following instrumental ensembles:

  • School Orchestra
  • Junior Strings Ensemble
  • Brass Ensemble
  • Flute Ensemble
  • Recorder Ensemble

Girls have the opportunity to take lessons with high calibre instrumental and vocal specialists who are all experienced teachers and performers. Parents/Guardians are required to pay fees for these. The current provision offers lessons in:

Singing, Pianoforte, Violin, ‘Cello, Flute, Clarinet, Recorder, Guitar, Ukulele and Brass instruments.
