Fundamental British Values
At Pembridge Hall we promote the Fundamental British Values which are:
- Individual Liberty
- Mutual Respect
- Tolerance of those of different Faiths and Beliefs
- The Rule of Law
We approach the promotion of Fundamental British Values in line with the Government’s PREVENT scheme. Pembridge Hall pupils observe and practice these principals throughout everyday school life. We have a rich, diverse student body which enables us to celebrate and learn about traditions and practices of different faiths and cultures while encompassing the Fundamental British Values.
Throughout the school each classroom displays their own class rules and our Pembridge Hall behaviour motto. Some classrooms draw up a contract for the girls, the teacher and teaching assistant to agree upon and sign. Each class vote in their own Green Girl and School Council Representative, and these girls are the voice of the class during their meetings.
We invest a great deal of time in creating a positive ethos in our school, so that all members of our community are in a safe environment where choices and freedoms are encouraged. In PSHEE lessons we also support pupils in recognising how to exercise these freedoms safely. We promote the UNICEF Rights Respecting School Values and encourage the girls to talk about their culture and heritage. We encourage our girls to know how they are feeling at the beginning of each day and all girls are assigned a special job each week which they take ownership over.
Mutual respect is at the core of school life; girls learn to treat each other, and staff, with great respect. Visitors to our school are met with courtesy and our girls are eager to talk about their school. During all lessons, assemblies and discussions we encourage pupils to respect their peers’ nationalities, families and belongings.
Tolerance of Different Faiths
At Pembridge Hall we offer a culturally rich and diverse curriculum in which all major religions are studied, and visitors from these faiths are welcomed into school. We strongly believe that tolerance is gained through knowledge and understanding; our pupils experience this first hand by visiting various places of worship throughout their time at Pembridge Hall. Through our curriculum and the routines of school life, we strive to demonstrate tolerance and help the girls to become citizens who can build a better Britain for the future.
The Rule of Law
Our pupils will encounter rules and laws throughout their lives. We want them to understand that, whether these laws govern the class, the school or the country, they are set for good reason and must be adhered to. Understanding of this is consistently enforced through assemblies and many elements of school life. Their involvement in the creation of pupil rules helps them to appreciate the reasons behind them and the consequences if they are broken.
